Start of Dhul-Hijjah, Day of Arafat & Beginning of Eid al-Adha

Just a reminder from HMY Sisters regarding the arrival of the virtuous month of Dhul-Hijjah and the blessed days of Arafat & start of Eid al-Adha:

Saudi Authorities stated on Thursday evening that the Saudi high judicial council announced that Friday will be the last day of the month of Dhul-Qi'dah, and that Saturday November 29 will be the first of day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah. Hence, Sunday December 7 will be the Day of Arafah and Monday December 8 will be the first day of Eid Al-Adha.
قالت مصادر سعودية مساء اليوم الخميس: إن مجلس القضاء الأعلى السعودي أعلن أن غدًا الجمعة هو المتمم لشهر ذي القعدة، وأن بعد غدٍ السبت هو غرة شهر ذي الحجة، وبذلك يكون الأحد الموافق السابع من ديسمبر هو يوم الوقوف بعرفة، والاثنين أول أيام عيد الأضحى المبارك.

Hajj: stronger faith & stronger commitment
From time to time, we have to hold ourselves accountable to learn how much Islam we carry within ourselves, and how could we strengthen our belief. We can achieve this by performing Hajj; it is one of the five pillars of our deen which is obligatory on every sane and able Muslim who has reached the age of puberty. Try to use this opportunity in which you emigrate to God to concentrate on how to please Allah… The importance of Hajj lies in making us return with a stronger faith and a stronger commitment.

Narrated 'Aisha:
(the mother of the faithful believers) I said, "O Allah's Apostle! We consider Jihad as the best deed." The Prophet said, "The best Jihad (for women) is Hajj Mabrur. "
(Sahih Bukhari Volume 2, Book 26, Number 595 )
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "Whoever performs Hajj for Allah's pleasure and does not have sexual relations with his wife, and does not do evil or sins then he will return (after Hajj free from all sins) as if he were born anew."
(Sahih Bukhari Volume 2, Book 26, Number 596)

Doing Ibadah out of love & fear of Allah swt
Assalaamu 'Alaykum dearest sisters!
Ibadah is something which we should do out of love and fear of Allah swt and not as a burden we need to carry out on a daily basis. As Muslims our continuous ibadah and sincere intentions is what distinguishes us from others, and preserving this identity of a true Muslim should be our goal insha'Allah. Just as a reminder, the following ahadiths point out the adkar of ibadah (salaat, dhkir...).
~Abu Musa al-Ash’ari (may Allah be Pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The likeness of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who doesn’t is like that of the living and the dead,” and this is al-Bukhari’s version. Muslim’s wording is: “The likeness of the house in which Allah is remembered and that in which He is not remembered is like that of the living and the dead.” Sahih Muslim’ (779)
~And Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When any one of you goes to sleep, Satan ties three knots at the back of his neck, sealing each knot by saying: ‘You have a long night. So, sleep.’ So, if one wakes up and mentions Allah, a knot is loosened. If he performs ablution, two knots are loosened. And if he prays, all the knots will be loosened, and in the morning he will be active and in a good mood. Otherwise, he will be in a bad mood and sluggish in the morning.” al-Bukhari (1142) and Muslim (776)
~And ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be Pleased with him) narrated that mention was made of a man who slept the whole night till morning. So, the Prophet (peace be upon him) remarked: “That is a man in whose ears Satan has urinated.” al-Bukhari (3270) and Muslim (774)

HMY is in the midst of being revitilized and for further changes we need sisters like yourselves to help us improve HMY. Please bring yourselves, your friends and your thoughts/ideas to the weekly sisters' halaqas and discussions, followed by HMY meetings, every Saturday at 7 pm. Also please inform your parents that there are also halaqat ul-ilm for them as well each week. Hope to see you ladies on Saturday insha'Allah. Jazakum Allahu khairan!

Simply e-mail hmysisters@gmail.com with an anonymous name,or nickname, or your real name, This name will be publicly displayed a long with everyone else.
Put the subject of the e-mail as Qur'an Contest
(Note: Please use a valid email address. Please also ensure that it is one that you check often.)
Who wins? And what’s the prize?
Everoyne wins, because everyone is rewarded with blessings from Allah! That is the prize. That said, there will be a special gift this year to the top winner, inshaAllah. Winners will be announced on Eid Day and be contacted for the prize.Rules
- Anyone between 12-22 years of age can join.
- You can use anonymous names or your real names.
- I will not reveal anyones real identity.
- Contest officially begins on the first day of contest
- No lying. If you lie, you got some serious issues with yourself.
- Recitation in prayer doesn’t count. You must actually read from the Qur’an during your free time when your not praying salah.
- You must read the Qur’an in Arabic only. (English doesn’t count towards the contest, but you should still read the English).
- You must calculate the number of ayat including Surah al-Fatiha which is 7 ayat.
- Only include the number of ayat you read from the front to the back. (Example: Do not include the number of ayat if you read Surah Yaseen every day or Surah Kahf every Friday. They do not count.)
- Holding the Qur’an in Taraweeh salah and following the Hafidh does not count.
- You must recite out loud or enough so that your lips are moving and your ears can hear. No silent reading or reading from you mind.
- Apply the tajweed rules (science of Qur'an recitation) as best as you can.
